The Christmas Tree Tradition

The United States has been decorating Christmas trees since 1924. This is a tradition in the US because it is the first known symbol of the most favored holiday season in the nation. Trouble and controversy occurs because of the liberals pushing their opinions onto others about their beliefs of how wrong it is to cut down a tree.

Because trees are the most recognized symbol in the nation for the holiday season, almost 40 million people every year cut down or buy their own tree. This is a lot of trees to put into households and it is a lot of less trees growing in the ground. Many people are concerned with the cutting of trees. Some of these people might be verbal about it and even picket to try to make their statement. If this is going on around you when you go to buy a tree you might feel a little uncomfortable to buy your tree.

The important thing to remember is that trees are commonly grown in farms specifically for the holiday. These trees are planted and grown in the same year. Many people believe the trees are being cut down right out of the forest or part of a clear cutting effort but this is not the case. The trees offered for Christmas come from farms that grow them each year. This does not ruin the environment.

People are not limited to the types of trees they can buy for the holiday season. One of the favored trees as of recently are the lighted palm trees, which are also called flocked. These trees have a white material sprayed across the trees that make the tree look as if it is covered in snow. Many people love this look. These trees come with the idea of the white Christmas is the most romantic holiday you can have. The white trees look fabulous when the lights are glowing on the trees.

Artificial Christmas trees are very popular. It can be very tasking to have to wrap lights around a tree. The lights can get tangled and take hours to unravel. It is also difficult at times to get the lights to look even around the tree. A prelit tree has the lights spread around the tree perfectly. This makes for a perfectly lit tree and you don’t have to spend the time wrapping the lights around. Also, you are at less of a risk of a fire hazard with the lights also.

Christmas trees have been a national tradition for over 75 years. It is a controversy when the trees are cut down from the forests. Most trees are grown in tree farms and it is not hurting the environment to cut the trees down. You can buy artificial trees if you like and there are many different types to choose from. Trees you can select from include predecorated, prelit, flocked, and more. The tree is the most widely known symbol around the United States for the Christmas holiday season.

The History of the Christmas Tree

There are many stories about how the Christmas tree came about. There were also different beliefs associated with the trees and what they symbolized. This depended on where the origination was. Many of the different beliefs came from German, Romans, Scandinavians, and more.

The Romans didn’t necessarily have trees for the holiday but they used the green tree branches. These branches were exchanged as a ritualistic fashion to ensure good luck coming to them in the New Year. This occurred every year on January 1.

The Evergreen trees were once worshiped by the Scandinavians. The belief was that there were godlike spirits inhabiting the trees. People would bring the trees inside of their homes so the spirits would be pleased and give them blessing. The Scandinavians began using the trees as a Christian festivity when the Gospel of Christ was introduced to them. They did not use an artificial Christmas tree at this time.

German was the first recorded country to begin decorating Christmas trees in front of an old Cathedral. They would decorate the trees with fruits and nuts. The Germans would bring home trees and decorate them with food. They also decided it looked nice to light up the tree with candles to make it shine. This idea was brought over to the new world by the Germans. Soon enough, America began using trees and also artificial Christmas trees.

Today, people use any type of tree to decorate for the holiday all around the world. Many people don’t have a belief about the tree itself if it brings good spirits into the home or any other reason. The Germans had it right when they decorated the trees for the children. Many people who do not have children do not even buy trees for the holiday. Artificial Christmas tree are the best solution because you can use the same tree every year. However, if you have a belief about the spirits or good luck to bring into the new year you might want a real tree or maybe your luck will not be so real either.

It is also uncommon for people to decorate their trees with fruits, nuts, and other foods. Today, people use decorative ornaments. Children often like to make their own decorations for the Christmas tree. The most commonly used food on a tree by children is the use of popcorn to make strands for garlands. Fire is not used today on a tree also because of the fire dangers. People put strands of electrical lights specifically designed for the trees.

The Christmas tree has a lot of significance to different countries. Depending on where your ancestors are from you may have different beliefs. These might be from ensuring good luck from spirits blessing you or just wanting to please the children. Today, most people put a tree up for the latter. The most widely pronounced symbol of the holidays is the Christmas tree. Not everyone puts a tree up during the holiday nor does everyone believe in Christmas.
